Fir Lodge was co-designed, project managed and built by the owner, Danny Wyatt, and his team of craftsmen. This education into log building sparked an idea to automise the log building process - a 10 year long journey which you can see the results of at www.ecolodgic.co.uk
Each log, sourced from nearby woodlands, was hand peeled to remove the bark and then hand scribed and hand cut to fit together perfectly. Now, four years on, the timber is maturing beautifully in colour and shape.
Windows, doors and staircase were all hand made from English Oak, the roof covering is the finest Cedar shingles imported specially from Canada.
The thickness of the log walls (up to eighteen inches) provides total insulation, apart from the roof and the floor. In the Family Room, with no stud walls, only the logs are between you and the elements for three of the four walls. The building is 92% carbon neutral - which is incredibly high. That plus the use of a wood-pellet burner for the heating makes this an extremely environmentally friendly building.
